Find your rhythm.

Imsouane’s long waves have welcomed generations of surfers. Learn the two main spots, choose the right season and build confidence one wave at a time.

Magic Bay

A long right-hand point wave that can peel for hundreds of metres when conditions align. The sheltered inside can suit lessons on small days, but big swells, crowds and boats are real hazards. Ask a school where to enter and practise.

Cathedral

A more exposed zone with beach, reef and point sections, faster peaks and rocky areas. It is not a first-lesson alternative when the bay is busy. Get local advice on the specific peak, rocks, currents, entry and exit before paddling out.

GOOD TO KNOW

A season for every surfer.

01

Autumn · September–November

Atlantic swells start building. A good time to discuss a progression trip with a coach.

02

Winter · December–February

Generally the strongest and most consistent swells. Larger days are not beginner conditions.

03

Spring · March–April

Often a balance of usable swell and milder days, with conditions still changing session by session.

04

Late spring & summer · May–August

Often smaller swells, useful for supervised first lessons. Wind and crowded line-ups can still limit a session.

Read the ocean, not just the calendar.

October–April is widely recommended for consistent Atlantic surf. Exact tide advice differs between guides and changes with swell and sand. Check a current tide table, wind and wave report, and ask a local instructor that day. Morning may be calmer; it is not a safety guarantee.

SURF NOTES

Start small. Surf thoughtfully.

The Atlantic is not a pool. Check currents and swell with a qualified local instructor; never assume a beach is safe to swim.

Surf camps
  1. 01

Book a qualified local lesson. Start in suitable whitewater on a stable soft board; do not paddle to a crowded point alone.

  2. 02

Practise your pop-up on land with your coach. Place hands near your ribs, look forward, and land with relaxed, bent knees.

  3. 03

Respect priority: don’t drop in, don’t snake, and paddle around active riders. Keep control of your board and give others space.

  4. 04

Never dive headfirst. Learn safe falling and head protection from your instructor; a leash does not replace board control.

  5. 05

Bring or rent a wetsuit that suits the season and your sensitivity to cold. Check board, fins and leash before each session.
